Our Story

The Milton Choristers’ story began in December 1968, when Judy Hunter, an accomplished musician and member of the University Women’s Group of Milton and area, founded an all-women’s choir known as The Chansonettes. Through their early performances, a musical tradition took root and flourished through the decades.

In 1979, The Chansonettes evolved into the four-part SATB community choir we know today as the Milton Choristers. Since then, more than 500 singers have added their voices to our story, building friendships, developing their vocal abilities, and giving the gift of music to our community.

Throughout our history, directors and accompanists have inspired us to discover new musical possibilities. We’ve performed more than 1,000 pieces in languages ranging from French and Latin to Estonian and Woodland Cree. From Broadway favourites and contemporary pop to opera and classical masterpieces, our repertoire celebrates both sacred and secular music. One of our most cherished traditions is performing Handel’s Messiah every other winter.

Beyond the concert hall, we share our music at community events and local gatherings throughout Milton. Nearly six decades later, we continue to celebrate the joy of singing together and the connections that music creates.
