Artistic Director Biography

Dr. Lana LysogorDr. Lana Lysogor comes to The Milton Choristers after a three year tenure as the Artistic Director and Conductor of The Calgary Boys Choir Association. In the course of a diverse 20-year career in all aspects of music performance and education she has proven to be a dynamic and energetic conductor dedicated to the highest musical standards through performance, teaching and research. Having extensive practical experience in conducting, she has worked with a number of ensembles in Europe and North America (McGill University Repertoire Choir, Lwov Boys’ and Men’s Choir, Tallinn Choral Kapella, Montreal St. Sophie Cathedral Choir and the Male Chorus of Edmonton) producing choirs of outstanding quality and performing in the world’s best concert halls including Carnegie Hall. She has conducted in 10 countries on 3 continents and developed her repertoire which included compositions by J.S. Bach, G. F. Handel, W.A. Mozart,  J. Brahms, W. Byrd, F. Mendelssohn, F. Schubert, S. Rachmaninoff,  I. Stravinsky and many others.

Lana has worked as an assistant choir conductor at McGill University, college professor, private school teacher and taught a varied selection of courses including conducting technique, voice, choral literature, musicianship, ear training and piano.
Dr. Lysogor has done extensive research in the areas of North American, Western and Eastern European sacred, secular and folk music repertoire and performance styles. Her primary subjects of interest are in the fields of J.S. Bach’s Choral Works, the Origin and History of Music in Liturgy, and Eastern European Choral Literature. The combination of practice in all of these areas provides her with unique and cross-cultural knowledge as a musical scholar.

Lana holds D. Mus. Degree from the McGill University (Montreal, Canada) in choral conducting and Diploma (M. Mus. and B. Mus. Degree Equivalent) from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Tallinn, Estonia) in choral conducting, music education and chamber ensemble piano performance.
