About the Milton Choristers
HISTORY
Judy Hunter, an accomplished local musician, founded the choir in 1968. Originally a women's choir called the Chansonettes, the choir evolved into the Milton Choristers to include all voice ranges with approximately 50 singers. The choir's repertoire includes both classical and contemporary music and maintains a high performance standard as well as a strong sense of camaraderie.
Over the years various directors and accompanists have brought to the choir their leadership and musical development including: Judy Hunter, Brainerd Blyden-Taylor, Dr. Patricia Phillips, the late John Govedas and our current director, Lana Lysogor.
THE PRESENT
We are an auditioned, 4 part community choir who has entertained audiences in Halton Region and beyond for 42 years. With approximately 50 members, we perform three concerts annually, often including premier guest soloists and musicians. We are committed to our community and enjoy performing at numerous local events including the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Milton District Hospital, the United Way’s Christmas House Tour and Troy’s Toy Drive. We also sing at nursing homes and hospitals in the community.
Our wide ranging musical repertoire includes classical, contemporary, sacred and secular.
From Bach and Rachmaninoff to Elvis and Abba – we do it all!
Rehearsals are Tuesdays 7:30 – 10:00 pm from September to June, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 170 Main St E, Milton. A love of singing, some sight reading and a sense of rhythm, as well as a sense of humor, are definite assets!
The choir is dedicated to helping expand each person’s musical ability, however, members are also encouraged to spend time outside rehearsals to learn the music. Electronic midi files and sectional rehearsals are available for your assistance.
The choir is administered by a volunteer executive board which is elected annually. We rely on the expertise and talents of our entire membership to make each season successful.
